Projects
access to justice for children
Access to Justice for Children promotes non-adversarial justice in all matters involving children. Restorative Justice mechanisms are developed and built to deal with matters where children come into contact with Criminal Justice (as victim or offender) and Civil Justice (where a child or children may be at the heart of a family or matrimonial dispute)
Access to Justice also responds to desperate pleas for help where women and children are in particularly vulnerable situations such as in the case of spousal abandonment and honour based violence and cases of forced marriage.
This Project was shortlisted in the Hague Centre for Innovation in Law: Family Justice Section 2016

access to justice for communities
Access to Justice is widely consulted by Urban Shackdweller Communities facing eviction. Since 2013 it has shielded around 8000 families across South Africa. It does not prevent eviction in a vacuum, but works, often from the position of Amicus Curiae to advocate for diversion to dialogue and consultation. It also assists communities in surveying themselves for vulnerable persons and thus provides an invaluable educational platform.
It also advocates for diversion to Restorative Justice Dialogue in matters of Public Violence and is highly successful in mediating solutions to the cause of the symptomatic protest that may have turned violent
Access to Justice has also worked extensively in refugee law matters.

access to justice for students
Access to Justice has been consulted widely in matters relating to the unrest at South African Campuses. It has worked tirelessly to mobilize mediators, observers and lawyers at at least 17 campuses since 2015.
Access to Justice has fiercely bound itself to the Rule of Law challenging abuse of power by police, private security and executives on the one hand and determinedly guarding the right to peaceful protest with inter alia advice and support to lawful protestors.
It has also been involved in supporting dialogue and initiatives to bring about peace agreements at various campuses upon certain defined conditions that would see the academic calendar enabled to run to completion in 2016 whilst firmly standing against exclusions based on inability to pay fees.
